• Select the text box you want to place a border around. • Click the Home tab on the ribbon. • Click the Border icon and pick one of the options on the drop-down menu. For a simple box, click Outside Borders. • Select Borders and Shading at the bottom of the drop-down menu. In the Borders tab of the dialog box you can change the size, style, and color of the border, or choose a shadowed or 3D border. If you decide to remove the border later, highlight the text in the bordered text box. Click Home > Borders > No Border to remove the border. If you select only part of the text in the box, the border is removed from only that part and remains around the rest of the text. When a Line Behaves Like a Border By default, when you type three asterisks in a row and press the Return key, Word replaces the three asterisks with a dotted line the width of the text box.
